Does a song ever pop up in your head at the oddest of times? Last week I was pondering the numerous ways Socio-emotional learning (SEL) can describe the diverse work of our nonprofit sector, as one does on a Wednesday afternoon. 

Samora had a dream. Living as a single mom in one of New York City’s largest public housing buildings, Samora daily saw young moms in need of vital resources, young moms as she had once been.

“I feel like I manifested this ten years ago!” That’s what one long time Tenderloin leader said when we sat down for coffee in January to talk about the vision for SEEDing Stronger Together: Tenderloin. Born out of the inaugural cohort, the Tenderloin project asks what is possible when youth serving organizations in this dense and complex neighborhood of San Francisco build a new model for collaboration.
